HAVANA BAR & RESTAURANT GUIDE

HAVANA BAR & RESTAURANT GUIDE

HEREDIA

The full name is La Fondita Heredia, which translates to “the little dive heredia,” it's not near the touristy part of Havana, it’s in the 10 de Octubre neighborhood, and the clientele is mostly locals. The food is traditional Cuban with a few twists. It is a simple restaurant that has an air-conditioned dining room and adjoining open air cafeteria, both with good food and service, and is typical of some of the nicer restaurants that have opened in Cuban capital that cater to locals. It’s open from 10am to 11pm and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu lists prices in Cuban pesos, not CUC’s, so don’t freak out when you see that a tuna sandwich costs 50!

Lunch at Heredia averages about $6 per person, with a drink and coffee, and the food is well prepared, the drinks are cold. Sandwiches and burgers range in price from $1 to $3, and they have lots of pasta dishes as is common in today’s Cuban cuisine. Their homemade fruit juices cost 5 Cuban pesos per glass, or about .20 US cents. Can’t beat that!

While not exactly near Hemingway’s Finca Vigia, it’s in the same general area and may be as close as you’re going to get during your trip, so take advantage of your visit to Hemingway’s former home and stop at La Heredia.

Heredia is at the corner of Acosta and Heredia, the address is Calle Heredia 573 between Acosta and O’Farril, and the phone number is 7 640 0222. You won’t need reservations. It is a perfect spot to eat with locals on your Cuba trip.
